Berlin Stands w/ Students
Berlin stands with students is an informational platform for the Serbian diaspora in Germany.
During the student-led protests in Serbia, a severe media blackout and widespread misinformation made it difficult for the Serbian diaspora in Germany to access reliable, up-to-date information. Information was fragmented across social media, private groups, and unofficial sources, creating confusion, distrust, and disengagement at a critical moment.

Goal
In response to the media blackout and the escalating crisis in Serbia, the project focused on creating a website that serves as a trustworthy and reliable source of information about the student-led democratic protests.
Designed specifically for the Serbian diaspora in Berlin and across Germany, the platform cuts through misinformation and noise, helping people stay informed, connected, and actively engaged in supporting the democratic movement.
Challenge
During the student-led protests in Serbia, a severe media blackout and widespread misinformation made it difficult for the Serbian diaspora in Germany to access reliable, up-to-date information. Information was fragmented across social media, private groups, and unofficial sources, creating confusion, distrust, and disengagement at a critical moment.
Problem to tackle:
Lack of trustworthy information due to media censorship in Serbia
Uncertainty around how to support the student protests from abroad
Difficulty in raising awareness among the German public
My Approach
I treated the project as a crisis communication and trust-design challenge. Together with the Berlin Stands with Students team, I defined user needs, mapped key content, and created a clear sitemap before design and development.
The platform supports two main user journeys:
What’s happening right now?— verified updates and announcementsHow can I help?— protests, donations, media outreach, and volunteering
To enable participation, I added a media gallery for sharing protest visuals, a press releases page for outreach to German media, and a signup form for volunteers and email updates. A bold visual system using black, red, and gold ensured recognition and trust, while connecting recognizable symbols of both protest and Germany.
After launch, I extended communication through an official WhatsApp channel and unified visuals across all platforms.
Final designs
A dedicated website was built to centralize verified news from Serbia, announce support protest events across Germany, and provide clear guidance on how to donate and get involved.
To extend the reach and enable faster updates, an official WhatsApp channel was also launched, allowing direct distribution of news and event information to the diaspora community.
In addition, I designed a complete set of digital assets for social media use, including Instagram templates, banners, flyers, and badges, ensuring consistent and recognizable communication across all channels.
